I’ve never been a HUGE fan of liquid highlighters – I’m battling some skin texture right now, and I feel anything liquid and not mattifying just intensifies what I’m trying to hide.
That being said these two brands scream quality in the make-up scene. The first opponent in the ring: The Cover FX Liquid Enhancing Drops (a re-release with new colors, and I went with the Rose Gold). I love everything Rose Gold, so why not lather it all over my face? Marc Jacobs has absolutely slayed between their coconut-water primer and their cover-every-imperfection foundation, so I was more than excited to test this baby out. Plus their packaging is always above and beyond any other brand (in my opinion).
I mixed the MJ in with a bit of the Georgio Armani foundation to get an all over glow. I don’t typically like this look (again due to my already texturized skin I feel like I’m emphasizing my flaws). However, I felt like the glow was more subtle, picking up sheen in just the right light. Also, it smells AMAZING – a combination of coconut sunscreen and a tropical fruit (the perfect scent to lead us into dreams of Summer). The result was exactly what I like – a very subtle sheen, but not greasy like I just got out of the gym or am having oil-overload on my forehead.
I tested the Cover FX as a traditional highlight, and I loved this color combo as it appeared like a blush replacement due to the rosy tones in the new ‘rose gold’ option.
For me, I was much more keen to the Marc Jacobs, but both were amazing. A little goes a very long way (see the insert). That being said, my disclaimer would be that I know ‘the more shine the better’ is the trend amongst beauty bloggers and on a night out, I’m totally with you. I feel these two options that can easily be mixed for an all over Summer glow are much more my style – subtle, but still obvious. The formula in the Cover FX felt a little more oily or even oil-based to me, which was the tie-breaker between the two.
Let me know what you all thought! Have you tried other colors of the Cover FX before? Which one do I absolutely NEED to try?
