I’ve had a love/hate relationship with Kylie Cosmetics for awhile now. First, I was part of the Lipgloss-gate situation. Then, I was part of the Metallic Madness. It became more and more frustrating. Everytime I purchased something I felt like there was an issue – a VIRAL issue that everyone else was having too. I totally understand – the brand is only a few years old, so there’s going to be issues, especially at first. Also, the volume in which she is producing was bound to cause some PR nightmares. But, her customer service team was basically refusing to fix any issues and sending out ‘too bad so sad’ emails – which say what you want about the Kardashians, but they are usually marketing geniuses. It was an overall mess, and at her price points, I wasn’t about spending money for sub par products.
However, make no mistake, Kylie is CRUSHING the cosmetic market. And aside my frustrations, I always feel the need to have the next thing she’s putting out. Her manipulation of supply and demand is unlike anything out there right now – right up there with the first launch of the Sweet Peach palette, everything she launches sells out in minutes. So, needless to say, I gave it another swing when I saw her and her sister Khloe were putting out some more lip products AND a face palette – containing Kylie’s first ever BRONZER formula.
The lipsticks are exactly the same formula as all of her matte lip kits – so, if you already don’t like that product, you aren’t going to like the three options in this collection. Bunny is my absolute favorite. It reminds me of Celebrity Skin (my holy grail nude matte lipstick), so I’m already hooked. The other two are super fun bright Summer colors, a cute cocktail dress for a night out would be paired perfectly with either of these. The gloss is a little sticky and didn’t last very long (probably about an hour or so total). I’m already not a huge fan of glosses, but if you live and die for lip gloss it’s worth a shot. From top left going clockwise on the swatches below, Sugar Plum (Gloss), Bunny, Baby Girl & Doll (how STUNNING is this shade). The lip products I’d say are an 8 out of 10 – knocking a few points off for the gloss and it just not lasting on my lips. Some other reviews I read/watched said that Baby Girl was a little streaky, but I didn’t have that problem in the initial application. I’ll update once I wear it for a full day and see how that goes.
Now, onto the face palette. I’m in LOVE with this face palette. Never did I EVER think I would love a product by Kylie Cosmetics, but here it is. The highlights are pretty subtle, which is my style (especially in the Summer when I’m not trying to wear a ton of product). The bronzer is the perfect shade for me (not too ashy or orange). I’m posting a foundation review tomorrow and you can see I bought the total wrong shade (insert womp womp sound here), so I used this bronzer to shade match my face. It’s a really pretty natural contour with a little bit of bronzed-flecks for a more Summery result. The only thing I didn’t love was the blush – I applied about three layers and still didn’t really see anything. So, if you like blush that actually shows up on your skin…this ain’t for you. I’m going to have my sister try it (as she has a much lighter skin tone than me).
The collection will be restocked today at 6PM EST.
