After spending a decent amount of money on store bought lip scrubs over the past few years, I’ve done my research and just started making my own. I’ve given credit where is credit is due – I did NOT invent any of these recipes, they’re just a collection of my regular favorites that I use now! Plus, you know I never try to reinvent the wheel here, I just know good and share good.
Lip scrubs are crucial – especially if you are a fan of the matte lipstick trend. Nothing is worse than dry lips and matte lipstick – NOTHING. All of these are edible and non-toxic, and typically you can just use a mix of these ingredients to create one that really fits your taste.
Honey & Brown Sugar – posted by Honestly (the Honest Company blog). This one is my FAVORITE from a taste perspective.
- 1 tablespoon of organic coconut oil
- 2 tablespoons of brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon of organic honey
- Small glass container with lid (try an old pot of lip gloss or baby food jar)
- Bowl & spoon to mix ingredients
Sugar Cookie Lip Scrub – compliments of the Wellness Mama. I love that she really goes with an organic, raw approach with her ingredients.
- 1 T. organic cane sugar
- ½ tsp unrefined coconut oil
- ¼ tsp sweet almond oil
- ½ tsp vanilla extract (preferably made with glycerin)
- 1/8 tsp raw honey
Bubble Gum Pink Scrub – DIY Joy provided the ingredients for this one! Although she claims it’s a Lush dupe, Lush is know for their signature ‘bubble gum’ scrub, so adding maybe an artificial flavoring might be your cup of tea. There are no measurements on here, but I’d say use your best judgement based on the measurements of the other recipes!
- Vanilla extract
- Food coloring
- Granulated sugar
- Olive oil
- Empty container
Minty Almond Lip Scrub – Hello Glow posted this one first, and I’ve seen it shared quite a few times since then. I actually got really crazy and put some peppermint leaves in my last concoction and loved the even more insane freshness I got from the mixture.
- 1 tsp. honey
- 1 tsp. sweet almond oil
- 1 drop of peppermint oil
- 1/2 tsp. brown sugar
