As much as I don’t miss school…I miss back to school. Mostly, the shopping part.
I wasn’t nearly as into makeup in high school or college (or shit..even grad school), so I can’t really share what my go-to favorites were when I was at that stage in my life. However, I compiled a few of my favorite products to close out Summer – especially highlighting those affordable makeup products for my readers on a budget (also known as me).
ColourPop No Filter Concealer in Light/Medium & Medium –
As much as I’m obsessed with my Tarte Shape Tape concealer, this comes in a close second. Plus, it’s a fraction of the price (which is always nice), so if my ST is sold out this will be my next choice moving forward. With ColourPop being in Sephora by the end of the year, this is sure to fly off the shelves (it’s been sold out for weeks with CP promising us a restock soon enough) – its super full coverage, long lasting and doesn’t give you that shiny, glowy look I’ve never been a huge fan of.
Dose of Colors ‘The Girls’ Palette with Desi x Katy
I did a three looks post with about 80% of the collection a few weeks back and literally haven’t stopped using this palette since. You do need one, maybe two matte shades to create a full look, but this palette is everything. The pigmentation is insane. The application is so easy, even for someone who considers themselves a complete cosmetic rookie. And there’s sparkles. Which make everything better – in case you weren’t sure.
Kylie Cosmetics Birthday Collection Ultra Glow in King –
Ya’ll know how I feel about Kylie Cosmetics sometimes, but this shit is pure gold. I use is as eyeshadow, highlighter. I put it on my cheeks, shoulders, elbows. Seriously. It’s that good. It’s super pigmented too, and a little goes a VERY long way. The price point too is so reasonable for the amount of product you get. I got ‘Queen’ as well, but the pink tones make it little harder for everyday use. Overall though, both are amazing formulas, I just use King wayyy more often.
Tarte Lid Lock Eyeshadow Primer –
I’ll be the first person to tell you that concealer makes a perfectly fine eyeshadow primer. BUT. If you have an event where you absolutely need that look to stay put, this is the best option. I know a lot of people turn to the MAC Paint Pots for eyeshadow priming needs, but this is the perfect shade for that neutral canvas we all strive for before turning in for that crease color.
Health Aid Kombucha in Cayenne Cleanse –
Ok, obviously this isn’t makeup related (rather more on the fitness side). I used to take a daily probiotic for digestion, but this stuff is right up my alley. I LIVE for spicy things, so the cayenne pepper is my absolutely flavor. Plus, the cayenne helps with bloat on days I feel crummy. You should only drink MAX one kombucha per day, so I try not to overdose. They only have the Apple one on Amazon, but they sell it at all Whole Foods and most CVS’.
I love how light-weight and very minimal creasing I get from this powder. I use it to set my undereyes anytime my Laura Mercier translucent compact isn’t around, and it’s excellent. It doesn’t feel like a powder foundation, but provides the light coverage of a powder anyways. I’ve always been a fan of the Fit Me line, and this stuff is no exception!
This is a last Winter or Fall release that I revisited and forgot how much I loved. I am OBSESSED with stick foundations – mostly because I have a running track record of liquid foundations exploding in the bottom of my makeup bag due to my tendency to carry everything I own at one given moment. This is so seamlessly full coverage too, and doesn’t get oily throughout the day (like some of my other foundations do).
Benefit POREfessional Pore Minimizing Makeup –
I definitely had my doubts on this, as it’s not even called a foundation soooo like what does it actually do? I had stopped into Sephora for something else (shocking, I know) and there was a Benefit representative on site who let me test it out. I was actually pretty blown away by how full coverage it was, and I’ve been using it underneath my foundation around my nose where my pores are the absolutely WORST ever. I’m totally sold on the POREfessional primer. It is rather watery though (I made a mess my first time using it), but I do think it makes a ton of difference with my skin texture when I use under an even more full coverage foundation. Definitely going to need to try out more of this line – potentially another post idea?!
Everytime a foundation advertises as being ‘glowy’, ‘dewy’ or ‘radiant’, a red alarm goes off in my brain screaming ‘sweaty’, ‘greasy’ and ‘oily’. I only recently lost my very oily tendencies, so was never ever (ever) a fan of dewy foundations. However, I am such a huge fan of the ‘Pro Matte’, I figured it wouldn’t hurt to try. I absolutely DIE for how this makes my skin look. As long as I set it with a transcluscent powder, this gives me the most stunning radiance- just the right amount of sheen. Spoiler alert, the sister concealer is just as bomb.
